IAA Mobility 2025: ElringKlinger presents innovative solutions for next-generation mobility

  • Product transformation underpinned by long-standing core competencies: ElringKlinger blends established technologies with new drive concepts for a sustainable future
  • Pioneering cell contacting systems and battery components for the latest and most efficient electric vehicles
  • Innovative sealing technology sets standards for battery applications, including metal-elastomer gaskets for the integration of cooling concepts

When it comes to successfully shaping the transformation of mobility, innovative technologies are an essential requirement not only in the field of vehicle construction but also with regard to batteries and drive systems. Against this backdrop, ElringKlinger's focus at this year's IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich is on showcasing its portfolio of high-tech products centered around cell contacting systems, sealing materials, and solutions based on high-performance plastics for the next generation of electromobility. The company's success in these areas is underpinned by its long-standing core competencies relating to materials and processes, which ElringKlinger has also been applying to alternative drive concepts for a period spanning more than two decades. Cell contacting systems are a prime example of this proven expertise. These components play a key role in battery electric drives and have been in series production at ElringKlinger since as far back as 2012. Over the years, ElringKlinger has transferred know-how gained from coating, punching, and embossing – key processes in the production of cylinder head gaskets – to its operations in the field of e-mobility.

Thomas Jessulat, CEO of the ElringKlinger Group: "Building on its mobility solutions, ElringKlinger was quick to position itself as a specialist in the field of electromobility. This is also reflected in the current product portfolio: ElringKlinger's high-performance cell contacting systems, customized lightweighting concepts, and innovative sealing technology not only help to extend the range of electric vehicles but also contribute to improved safety and a longer battery life. Series production relating to high-volume orders in this field, particularly for cell contacting systems, is gradually being ramped up. We are thus helping to shape the next generation of electromobility."

Key technologies for sustainable mobility
The battery forms the heart of electric vehicles. The ElringKlinger Group commenced its operations in the field of battery and fuel cell components as early as the turn of the millennium. Today, ElringKlinger's E-Mobility business unit offers solutions centered around the battery technology of the future in both the automotive and the non-automotive sectors, based on high-performance cells covering the low- and high-voltage spectrum. Pursuing a specialized approach, the company is able to tailor its products precisely to individual customer requirements – from standard applications to high-performance automotive solutions.

As a key component of the battery, ElringKlinger's state-of-the-art cell contacting systems pave the way for next-generation electric vehicles. Produced around the globe in line with the "local-for-local" approach, the Group's cleverly engineered cell contacting systems provide the basis for extended ranges, improved charging processes, and cost-optimized batteries. Strength in innovation has always been a hallmark of the Group. Committed to achieving even greater efficiency in the field of electromobility, ElringKlinger is directing its R&D efforts at some of the latest trends in battery technology, such as immersion cooling, and is working on the next generation of its cell contacting systems.

Key technology in the field of lightweighting and high-performance plastics
Concepts centered around lightweight construction are of particular relevance to electric vehicles: every kilogram saved has a positive impact on the range, wear, and acceleration of electric vehicles. Here, too, ElringKlinger has made its mark, drawing on long-standing system expertise and employing a wide range of manufacturing processes in the field of lightweight plastic engineering. ElringKlinger's customized lightweight components can be used throughout the vehicle, e.g., in the form of cockpit cross-car beams, door modules, or engine mounts. When it comes to design, the focus is on weight reduction, functional integration and optimization, robustness, and efficiency.

ElringKlinger: Innovative sealing technology sets standards for e-mobility
ElringKlinger produced its first cylinder head gasket over 100 years ago. Today, the Group mass-produces high-performance seals and gaskets for e-mobility applications. Drawing on its in-house development capabilities for elastomers and its expertise in combining metals and elastomers, ElringKlinger has succeeded in transferring the process traditionally used in the production of cylinder head gaskets to a pioneering solution by the name of MetaloBond™. MetaloBond™ rotor/stator stacks deliver the very best in sealing performance. Featuring full face bonding of the individual layers, the stacks can incorporate advanced cooling concepts (including in-slot cooling) tailored to the requirements of e-mobility applications. Direct cooling of electric machines is a key factor in achieving greater ranges for electric cars.

SHAPE30: an answer to the challenges of the present and the future
