Focus on Carbon Neutrality
First emission-free production site
ElringKlinger is following a clear roadmap to switch its group sites to renewable energy. From 2025, all European sites will be supplied exclusively with green electricity; the sites in Germany were already converted in 2021. At the same time, the group is working to reduce or even eliminate gas consumption at its plants. The site in Gelting, Bavaria, has successfully achieved this. The second heat pump, installed in 2023, uses the ambient air as a heat source and converts it into thermal energy, which can be used to heat the production halls. As a result, gas heating is no longer required and all the energy needed by the plant is sourced from CO2-neutral sources. The project was part of the 1% Capex budget that the Group allocates annually for emission-reducing measures. ElringKlinger offsets any additional emissions incurred in Europe.

“Provincial Green Factory” – company in Changchun, China, awarded national-level “Green Factory” status
The Chinese subsidiary Changchun ElringKlinger Ltd. has received national-level Green Factory certification. The certificate was officially awarded by the Ministry for Industry and Information Technology in Jilin province. The preparations took several months and involved planning for energy-saving sustainability projects. The plant has already brought on stream a photovoltaic system and for many years has been successfully operating a heat recovery system. Each year, these two systems play a major part in saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions. In addition to these measures, the plant also has a certified energy, environmental, and occupational safety management system. With these prerequisites in place, the plant in Changchun has every opportunity to drive further reductions in its energy consumption and emissions, thereby making a valuable contribution to climate change mitigation.
